More About Milkweed

When and where to look for milkweedsMilkweeds bloom in the summer. Look for their flowers from May through August. Milkweeds are often found in areas with wet soils, along margins of streams, lakes, ponds and marshes, prairies, meadows, roadsides, railways, crop fields, floodplains.

There are over 100 different milkweed species in North America. Nebraska is home to about 17 species. Some commonly seen milkweeds are:
